Solairedirect inaugurates 5.6 MW solar project in India

Solairedirect Energy India has unveiled its new solar energy project near Phaldoi, Rajasthan, in India. According to The Indian Express, the project is the first for Paris-based Solairedirect Group.

The 5.6 megawatt (MW) solar park was commissioned in February and is expected to generate 9,000 MWh (megawatt hours) per year. The source said all of the photovoltaic cells, modules and inverters for the project are from Indian companies.

"We are showing that solar power can make a serious contribution in addressing this country's pressing energy needs with equipment manufactured in India," said Theirry Lepercq, chairman of Solairedirect Group.

India has set a goal to install 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022, according to The Indian Express. Another round of bids for an additional 750 MW of projects will begin in July. India is aiming for 75 percent of the projects to be built using equipment made inside the country in an effort to boost its economy and increase its use of renewable energy.
