GE infographic looks at electrical safety in oil & gas

This year, global oil demand will increase by 840,000 barrels per day. Global oil demand is now expected to total 90.2 million bpd in 2013. The heightened demand for heavy oil and natural gas will require thousands of new employees.

A new infographic from GE looks at this growth and the strains it puts on safety. Figures from the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers show that 16.1% of all fatalities at oilfields are caused by an electrical accident, explosion or burn. Of all on-site electrical hazards at an oil & gas facility, arc flash is perhaps the most lethal threat.

Electrical Safety in Oil & Gas from GE’s Industrial Solutions business illustrates the growth of the global oil & gas industry, the prevalence of electrical accidents at oilfields, what and arc flash is, and the potentially devastating impact of an arc flash on operations if proper precautions are not taken.
