PSA conducts audit of logistics on offshore oil platform

During the period 6-8 February 2012, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of logistics, which includes material handling, lifting equipment and safe use of lifting equipment, on board the Scarabeo 8 drilling facility.

Background

The activity was part of the case processing related to the application for an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from Saipem Norge (Saipem) for the Scarabeo 8 drilling facility.

Result

Nonconformities were identified in relation to:

•The management system for use of lifting equipment
•Offshore cranes and pipe handling crane
•Design of control cabins
•Loading deck and pipe storage deck
•Emergency operation of lifting appliances
•Offices

Furthermore, improvement items were identified in relation to:

•Overview of lifting equipment and lifting tools in the drilling modules
•Loose lifting equipment
•Training
•Labeling of lifting equipment
•Access to main storage
