AREVA and its local partner ENSYS have been selected by U-Thong Bio Power, a Thai independent power producer, for the construction of a biomass power plant located in the Supanburi Province, in the North-West of Thailand. The total value of the project is US$ 17 million.

The plant fueled by rice husk and by bagasse, will generate a total output of 9.9 MW electrical power, enough to provide 6000 to 8000 households with green electricity.

The project is scheduled for completion end of 2013.

“This deal strengthens AREVA’s reference position in the fast growing South-East Asian market and confirms AREVA’s competitiveness in this challenging market”, declared Xavier Hurbin, AREVA Bioenergy CEO.

U-Thong Bio Power Co Ltd is a Thai company which, among other activities, is already operating a 10MW biomass power plant.
