Nabucco hires RPS Energy for land mines risk assessments along pipeline route

Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH has appointed RPS Energy as Consultants on unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk assessments effective from August 25, 2011.

With many years of experience providing consulting services for Health, Safety, Environment & Security, the UK based company will support Nabucco in conducting a general risk assessment of possible Land Mines and UXO contamination, along the whole pipeline route.

In order to ensure that Nabucco and its contractors are able to operate safely in each of the five countries the pipeline crosses, a general risk assessment of possible Land Mines and UXO contamination needs to be conducted. Before entering into a full survey or clearance operation, the initial risk assessment will help Nabucco to determine the size and scope of the issue. It will clarify which areas warrant closer attention; for these areas a full survey and limited clearance will subsequently be undertaken.

The scope of this study will therefore be to assess the likelihood and consequences of an encounter with UXO contamination within the project footprint. The assessment will identify a credible UXO risk and make recommendations on the most effective way to mitigate the risks.
