By Phaedra Friend Troy

An explosion rocked the Ricardo D. Elicabe Refinery in Bahia Blanca, Argentina Wednesday, reported  Brazilian major Petrobras (NYSE:PBR).

One of the temporary operator break rooms exploded at the refinery on Wednesday morning at about 1 a.m. local time. The blast was outside of the industrial area at the downstream facility.

One employee was killed, and another is injured from the explosion.

Internal emergency crews are working at the site of the accident, and the Civil Defense was notified immediately and is on site.

The refinery was shut-down as a preemptive measure, at the request of the local Subsecretariat for the Environment.

Petrobras is investigating the cause of the accident.

Receiving oil from the Neuquina Basin, the Elicabe Refinery is located in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires. The refinery is capable of processing 30,500 barrels of oil a day, and produces naphtha, diesel fuel, fuel oils, propane, propylene, butane, petrochemical products and more.
