ATP brings Mirage oil well online at the Telemark Hub in deepwater Gulf of Mexico

By Phaedra Friend Troy

US independent ATP Oil & Gas (NASDAQ:ATPG) has achieved first oil production from Mississippi Canyon Block 941 A-2 (#4) well on the Mirage field in the deepwaters of the US Gulf of Mexico.

Reaching an initial production rate more than 7,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day, the  A-2 well is the third well to produce through the Telemark Hub using the ATP Titan floating, drilling and production platform.

"We have finally realized the planned material production revenue of this well that has been much anticipated for 16 months," said T. Paul Bulmahn, ATP chairman and CEO. "This well was already drilled to 12,000 feet and cased prior to the Macondo spill and became subject to the moratorium."

Completed at a measured depth of 17,600 feet in the C and D sands, the Mirage oil well transected four Miocene sands located about 500 feet structurally higher than the same sands in the MC 941 A-1 well.

"The greater-than-a-billion-dollar investment at Telemark reflects ATP's continuing commitment to develop America's energy resources," Bulmahn said.

Wholly owned and operated by ATP, the Telemark Hub and ATP Titan are located in waters measuring 4,000 feet deep.
