Keppel to deliver FPSO Asent for Equatorial Guinea oil field

By Phaedra Friend Troy

Keppel Shipyard has completed the conversion of the FPSO Aseng destined for an oil field offshore Equatorial Guinea.

The FPSO conversion includes refurbishment and life extension works on the vessel, as well as upgrading the accommodation facilities, installing and integrating the topsides, and fabricating and integrating the internal turret. The FPSO Aseng is capable of processing 80,000 barrels of oil a day and storing 1.7 million barrels of oil.

Noble Energy chartered the FPSO for the Aseng oil field offshore Equatorial Guinea. Located on Block I, the Aseng oil field is being developed via five subsea wells tied to the FPSO in waters measuring 3,100 feet deep. The $1.3 billion field development is progressing, and first oil is expected sooner than scheduled in early 2012.

Additionally, the $1.6 billion Alen development will be tied to the Aseng FPSO for production in 2013.

The FPSO will be operated by Aseng Production Company, a joint venture between SBM Offshore and GEPetrol, the national oil company of Equatorial Guinea.
