Harvest Natural finds more oil with pre-salt sidetrack offshore Gabon

By Phaedra Friend Troy

Harvest Natural Resources (NYSE:HNR) has discovered more oil by deepening the Dussafu Ruche Marin-1 (DRM-1) well and drilling a sidetrack offshore Gabon, West Africa.

Located on the Dussafu Marin PSC in water measuring 380 feet deep, the DRM-1 discovered oil in June 2011 in the pre-salt Gamba reservoir. Harvest then deepened the well to test the Middle and Lower Dentale exploration potential.

The DRM-1 discovery well was deepened to a true vertical depth of 11,355 feet. The deeper well transected a second oil accumulation of 35 feet of oil pay in the Middle Dentale formation, supported by log evaluation, pressure data and fluid samples.

Harvest also drilled a sidetrack to the Gamba discovery. DRM-1ST 1 as drilled .75 miles southwest of the discovery well to test the lateral extent and structural evaluation of the Gamba reservoir. The sidetrack was drilled to a total depth of 11,562 feet in the Upper Dentale formation, discovering 19 feet of oil pay in the Gamba reservoir.

Harvest now plans to sidetrack the DRM-1 discovery well to the northwest to gain more information about the Gamba discovery and explore the commerciality of the Ruche oil discovery.

Harvest operates the Dussafu Marin PSC with 66.667 percent interest.
