Petrobras confirms high productivity at Guara extension well offshore Brazil

By Phaedra Friend Troy

In the ultra-deepwaters of the Santos Basin offshore BrazilPetrobras (NYSE:PBR) has reconfirmed that the Guara pre-salt field supports high productivity via a formation test of the Guara Norte extension well 3-SPS-69 (3-BRSA-788).

Despite being constrained by the test facility capacity, the Guara Norte extension well drill stem test flowed at a rate of 6,000 barrels of oil per day. The field contains light oil, measuring 30-degrees API.

These results are in line with those from the discovery well (1-SPS-55), confirming the excellent reservoir characteristics at Guara.

Petrobras estimates that initial production potential of 50,000 barrels of oil a day, while estimated oil and gas volumes in Guara are as high as 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Additionally, a second extension well, Guara South (3-SPS-82A) is currently being drilled about 7 kilometers to the south of the Guara discovery well.

Located on Block BM-S-9 in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil, the Guara Norte well was drilled in waters measuring 2,188 meters deep about 305 kilometers off the coast of Sao Paulo. Additionally, the extension well is located 15 kilometers northeast of the Guara discovery well.

Petrobras serves as the operator of Block BM-S-9 with 45 percent interest. Project partners include BG Group with 30 percent and Repsol with 25 percent.
