TVA seeks comments on proposed Kentucky transmission project

The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public comments on a transmission line project that will relieve overloaded equipment and help assure continued reliable power for a portion of western Kentucky.

The proposed improvements include constructing about 5 miles of 161-kilovolt transmission line to Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative Corp.'s new Salem Church Substation. The line would extend west from the existing Edgoten-Casky 161-kilovolt transmission line toward U.S. Highway 41 to the proposed substation on Elmo Road.

TVA is considering several alternative routes for the line from a network of 12 possible line segments.
Public input on the proposed improvements and transmission line alternatives is encouraged, beginning with an open house in Pembroke, Ky., on Thursday, March 24, from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. CDT at the Pembroke Elementary School gymnasium, 1600 Pembroke-Oak Grove Road.

Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the proposed power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. More information and a map are available here

To submit comments, contact TVA's Allen Miller toll free at 800-362-4355 or by e-mail newtransline@tva.com. Written comments also can be submitted to Miller by mail at 1101 Market St., MR 4G, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is April 25.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average.
