The global fleet of mobile offshore drilling units increased to 792 following the delivery of one drillship and one jackup. The number of rigs under contract also increased two this week to 573. The worldwide fleet utilization rate is unchanged at 72.3 percent.
In the US Gulf of Mexico, one additional rig is under contract this week. With 62 out of 131 offshore drilling rigs under contract, the regional utilization rate is 47.3 percent. The utilization rate in South American is up slightly this week, as both the rig count and the contracted count are up by one. With 98 out of 124 units under contract, utilization stands at 79.0 percent.
The number of offshore rigs in European waters and the Mediterranean Sea fell one to 115, and the number of rigs under contract fell by two this week to 90, giving a utilization rate is 78.3 percent. While the West African fleet count fell one to 63, the number of rigs under contract is unchanged from last week. With 46 mobile offshore drilling units under contract, the utilization rate has increased to 73.0 percent.
In the Middle East, both the fleet count and the contracted rig count rose by one this week. With 90 out of 119 offshore rigs under contract, utilization is 75.6 percent. Within Asia/Australia, the number of mobile offshore drilling rigs went up by two, as did the number of rigs under contract. With 108 out of 143 units under contract, the regional utilization rate stands at 75.5 percent.
