Zebra Enterprise Solutions (ZES), a division of Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ:ZBRA), launched its Personnel Safety Solution (PSS) at the Process Safety in E&P and Petrochemical Facilities Conference on September 21, 2010, in Houston, Texas. This new solution, based on the precise location accuracy of ultra-wide band (UWB) technology, helps companies in the oil and gas, steel and chemical manufacturing industries achieve their safety goals and get closer to a zero-incident workplace.

ZES developed PSS to address the critical need for improved safety processes in complex and highly hazardous environments. This state-of-art solution helps companies automate safety processes and employ real-time hazard detection and incident management. As a result, companies are able to receive notifications when workers, contractors and visitors enter dangerous areas without proper permits or verification. In addition, the solution will count and locate thousands of people in real time as they assemble in the evacuation areas. It provides coordination of evacuation procedures and emergency teams, and accounts for all workers, contractors and visitors in real-time, without manual activities.

PSS also allows the user to run real world scenarios through software analysis, and visualizes the location of assets and/or people after a certain event occurred to discover spatial patterns. The solution eases the reporting process by allowing users to report on all safety violations and compliance issues, providing comprehensive reports and accurate playback to evaluate and improve evacuation processes. PSS includes the newly released ZES Dart UWB product which allows for unmatched accuracy and provides precise location and real-time visibility of highly mobile, high-value asset movement. The Dart UWB product is an ATEX certified technology that can be deployed in harsh, dense metal environments, and in the presence of explosive gases.

“The harsh and complex environments of the process manufacturing industry make safety and security central to the success and health of a business,” said Euro Beinat, Vice President of Location Solutions at ZES. “PSS gives companies the real-time tools they require, and is specifically tailored to meet the stringent safety regulations of heavy industry environments.”

A leading global oil and gas company already deployed PSS to improve work and visitor safety at its 125,000 square-foot facility. The solution drastically improved its visitor safety and emergency evacuation process and ensured that all on-site workers, visitors and truckers were monitored and restricted from dangerous zones. As safety is paramount to the success and security of this company, the solution hugely impacts and positively supported its goal of a zero-incident workplace.
