Cabaca South East-2 appraisal increases massive find, solidifies second production hub on Block 15/06 offshore Angola

By Phaedra Friend Troy

Successfully appraising the Cabaca South East discovery, the Cabaca South East-2 well has encountered even more oil on the highly prolific Block 15/06 in the deepwaters offshore Angola.

Situated in waters measuring !,542 feet (470 meters) deep, the Cabaca South East-2 well is located about 100 kilometers from the coast of Angola.

Production tests of the appraisal well flowed high-quality 34-degree API oil at a rate of 7,000 barrels of oil per day, and flow was limited by surface facilities.

The Cabaca South East-1 well discovered the oil field in July 2010, proving oil-bearing reservoirs measuring 1,476 feet (450 meters) thick.

The Cabaca South East-2 well increased the initial estimate of oil in place for the field by 30 percent. The well’s success has also warranted a second production hub in the North East area of Block 15/06, which will double the production from the block.

Eni serves as the operator of Block 15/06 with 35 percent interest, and Sonangol E&P is the concessionaire. Project partners include Sonangol with 15 percent; SSI Fifteen with 20 percent; Total with 15 percent; and Falcon Oil, Statoil and Petrobras each with 5 percent interest.

Presently, engineering and planning efforts are under way for the West Hub on Block 15/06. The first production hub will help to guide the development of the second production hub.

Other discoveries on Block 15/06 include Ngoma, Cabaca Norte, Sangos, Nzanza and Cinguvu.
