Atlumin introduces monolithic "barking" moly sputtering targets for solar modules

Atlumin Energy Inc now fabricates monolithic rotary "barking" (dog bone) molybdenum and molybdenum sodium sputtering targets for solar module manufacturers. Monolithic molybdenum (moly) targets offer superior performance due to higher density and higher purity than traditionally fabricated moly targets. Rotary targets provide superior material utilization when compared to traditional planar targets for most applications. Atlumin’s barking configuration enables our customers to maximize material utilization of sputtering target by addressing accelerated wear at the ends of rotary targets.

Atlumin barking targets enable fewer target changes and longer run time between target changes. While dog bone target configurations have been an industry standard, Atlumin is the only manufacturer to offer monolithic targets in a barking configuration at a competitive price. Atlumin barking targets are fabricated from the start as a dog bone instead of simply machining material away which is the old and inefficient fabrication method. Bottom-line, Atlumin monolithic barking moly targets help improve cost per watt performance for solar manufacturers.

By taking advantage of added thickness at the ends of the target, Atlumin’s monolithic barking moly targets are designed to compensate for the magnetic characteristics of specific sputtering tools. The physical dimensions are customized to specific customer requirements. The Atlumin technical team, in collaboration with the customer’s process engineers, determines the geometry that strikes the optimal balance between sputtering performance, target life, and tool utilization. The Atlumin team will work one-on-one with their customers to provide a custom product that fits their unique requirements. This custom solution is then consistently replicated, target to target, until the customer requests future refinements.
