Anadarko discovers oil at Itauna on BM-C-29 offshore Brazil

By Phaedra Friend Troy

US producer Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) has discovered oil at its Itauna prospect on Block BM-C-29 offshore Brazil.

As required, the confirmation of hydrocarbons on the block was reported to the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency (ANP), but no other information about the discovery is available at this time.

“As disclosed in the show report filed with the ANP, we have already encountered oil in the Itauna prospect well above our multiple objective zones,” John Christiansen, manager of external communications with Anadarko, told PennEnergy. “We still have a lot of drilling to do before reaching our pre- and post-salt targets and total depth; however, we are very encouraged by what we have encountered to date.”

Anadarko is the operator of Block BM-C-29 with 50 percent interest. Colombian oil company Ecopetrol (NYSE:EC) holds the remaining 50 percent interest in the block.

Anadarko is also the operator of Block BM-C-30, which holds the massive Wahoo oil and gas field.
