Pepco Energy Services, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:POM) and a leader in energy savings performance contracting, has signed a fourth comprehensive energy savings performance contract with Prince George's County Maryland Public Schools.

The $35 million contract provides 103 county school system facilities with new energy infrastructure, including heating, cooling and ventilation system modernization, lighting improvements, water conservation, energy controls and renewable energy systems.

"This is a great opportunity for Prince George's County Public Schools to redirect savings from being more energy efficient back into the classroom and reduce its carbon footprint," said Dr. William R. Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Schools.

Pepco Energy Services will begin construction immediately. The project is expected to save Prince George's County Public Schools roughly $3 million annually. This contract will also further reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 million pounds of carbon dioxide a year, the equivalent of removing 3,200 cars from the road and saving 4,500 acres of trees.

"In tough financial times, the Board of Education looks for innovative ways to reduce costs," said Verjeana M. Jacobs, Esq., Board of Education Chair. "This program allows the school system to reduce energy costs and make our school buildings greener."

When all phases are complete, the project will provide approximately $74 million in energy savings over 13 years.

"This fourth contract award reflects Prince George's County School System's commitment to reduce energy use, save money, and help the environment," said John Huffman, Pepco Energy's President and CEO. "We are extremely pleased with Prince George's County School System's continued confidence in us to implement this important project."
