EnCore Oil revealed that the J.W. McLean semisubmersible rig has arrived at the Cladhan oil field on UK northern North Sea blocks 210/29a and 210/30a. Operations have commenced to sidetrack and delineate the Cladhan oil discovery made in December 2008.
The J.W. McLean semisub is set to appraise the potential extension to the original Cladhan light oil discovery and better define the size of the discovery.
Located in the western margin of the East Shetland Basin, near the Heather, Hudson and Tern fields, Cladhan is located on license P.1064. Formally known as the Bowstring East Prospect, the Cladhan light oil discovery was made when the 210-29a-4 well encountered an oil column measuring more than 110 feet in November 2008.
The discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 9,734 feet. Wireline logging confirmed 25 feet of net hydrocarbon pay over a gross interval of over 110 feet.
Sterling Resources is the operator of the Cladhan joint venture with 39.9 percent interest. Project partners include Wintershall with 33.5 percent, EnCore Oil with 16.6 percent and Dyas with 10 percent.
