RWE Dea readies to drill Zidane 1 prospect in the Norwegian Sea

RWE Dea received consent to drill an exploratory well at the Zidane 1 prospect in the Norwegian Sea with the Bredford Dolphin.
Exploration well 6507/7-14 S in the Halten Terrace area in the Norwegian Sea on production license 435 in waters measuring 369 meters deep. 

Zidane 1 is located 14 kilometers northwest of the Heidrun Field , 40 kilometers north of the Asgard Field, and 175 kilometers to the Norwegian coast. 

The drilling operation will start at the end of May 2010 at the earliest, and is expected to continue for between 81 and 105 days depending on the result of the drilling. 

RWE Dea is the operator of production license 435, with an ownership share of 40 percent. The other licensees are Norwegian Energy Company (Noreco), Wintershall Norge and Edison International, each with an ownership share of 20 percent. 

The Bredford Dolphin is a third-generation semisubmersible drilling rig of the type Aker H-3, built in 1976. The Bredford Dolphin is owned by Fred Olsen ASA and operated by Fred Olsen’s subsidiary Dolphin. The semisub received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in 2007.
