Today the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov, met with Eni CEO, Paolo Scaroni, in Awasar on the turkmen coast of the Caspian. During the meeting they discussed the existing cooperation between Turkmenistan and Eni and how to expand their already fruitful relationship through new initiatives. Turkmenistan plays a key role in the energy industry in the Caspian area and in the Central Asian region where it is the largest producer of gas.

Eni began its activities in Turkmenistan in 2008 with the purchase of British company Burren Energy plc. The company's activities are focused in the western part of the country over an area of 200 square km, which are split into four development areas. In 2009, Eni's equity production averaged 12 kboe/d. Exploration and production activities are regulated by a Production Sharing Agreement.
