Statoil to conduct development drilling on the Alve field

Source: Norwegian Petroleum Directorate

Statoil has received consent to use West Alpha semisubmersible for drilling and completing well 6507/3-L-4 H/AH on the Alve field.

The consent relates to use of the mobile drilling facility West Alpha for drilling well 6507/3-L-4H/AH on the Alve field, which is part of production license 159 B. The field is being developed with subsea solutions.

Located in 368 meters of water, the Alve well will first be drilled to test the oil-water contact in an adjacent formation. The lower part of the well will then be permanently plugged and the production well will be drilled and completed using a sidetrack into the producing formation. When the well is completed, it will be tied in to the production facility on the Norne field, which is located about 16 kilometers northeast of Alve.

The drilling will start, at the earliest, on May 15, 2010 and has an estimated duration of 60 - 75 days.
