Petrobras (PBR) announces the discovery of two new light oil accumulations (29o API) in reservoirs in the post- and pre-salt layer in deep Campos Basin waters. The discovery was made by means of the drilling of well 6-CRT-43-RJS, known as Carimbé, located in Caratinga Field, about 106 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, where water depth is 1,027 meters.
The accumulation discovered in the post-salt reservoirs is nestled 3,950 meters under the seabed. The recoverable volumes are estimated at about 105 million barrels of oil equivalent there.
The other accumulation, confirmed by the same well, is in pre-salt reservoirs. Located at a depth of 4,275 meters, these reservoirs may related to the accumulation previously identified by well 6-BR-63A 6-RJS in the Barracuda Field area. At the time, the recoverable volumes of oil were estimated at some 40 million barrels of oil equivalent. If the connection between these two accumulations is confirmed, preliminary data for the new well indicate a joint potential recoverable volume of 360 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Tests will be carried out to assess the productivity of these reservoirs and to analyze the possibility of interconnecting the well to platform P-48, which is currently in operation in the Caratinga Field, seeking to take advantage of the production and offloading infrastructure already installed in the area.
These accumulations will be the object of an Assessment Plan, to be submitted to the National Petroleum Agency (NPA) soon.
