Origin Energy has begun drilling three development wells into the Manutahi oil reservoir in the onshore Kauri field. The first well to be drilled was Kauri F4.
Origin Energy said the three wells will all be drilled from the Kauri F site with deviated well paths to different reservoir target locations. The wells will be completed with gravel pack completions for sand control.
Origin Energy also said it is extending the reprocessing of the comprehensive seismic project covering the TAWN area.
Reprocessing of some 90 sq km of 3D seismic data over the Waihapa- Ngaere area has been completed and reprocessing of approximately 580 km of 2D seismic data in the Tariki, Ahuroa and Ngaere areas is in progress.
Origin said his new data will be used to better define the fields and to assess the near-field opportunities.
At Ahuroa Origin’s work on the gas storage project, being developed on behalf of Contact Energy, continued during the first quarter.
Ahuroa 5 was sidetracked to a new bottom hole location and became Ahuroa 5 ST1. The Ahuroa 3 well was connected and the injection/withdrawal wells, Ahuroa 4 and Ahuroa 5 ST1, finished drilling, casing and completion.
Front end engineering and design progressed on the next stage of development of the Ahuroa storage project.
The Ahuroa gas facility will provide flexible gas supplies for Contact Energy including for its $250 million, 200 megawatt gas-fired peaking power station at Stratford which is expected to be commissioned during winter this year.
