OGX Petróleo e Gás Participações S.A., the Brazilian oil and gas company responsible for the largest private sector exploratory campaign in Brazil, has secured the cantilever jackup drilling rig Ocean Scepter to be provided by Diamond Offshore.

Ocean Scepter represents the first jackup drilling unit secured by OGX, and is ideally suited for drilling in shallow waters of the Pará-Maranhão Basin, which is considered a new frontier with geological characteristics similar to those in Ghana, where significant discoveries have recently been made.

Ocean Scepter has the capacity to drill wells up to a depth of approximately 11,000 meters, at a water depth up to 100 meters. The drilling unit will be made available from December 2010 for a period of one year, which can be extended for one additional year.
