By Phaedra Friend Troy

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Noor Oil & Industrial Technology Inc. has received funding for the $3.5 billion project to build a refinery and pipeline in Tanzania.

NOIT has already signed an implementation agreement with the government of the United Republic of Tanzania to build the facilities. With design and feasibility studies currently under way, the 200,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery would connect to an oil pipeline connecting Dar es Salaam to Mwanza, Kigoma.

The refinery is being built to not only provide the people of Tanzania with refined petroleum products, but also neighboring markets. NOIT is in talks with nearby governments to expand the pipeline into neighboring countries.
