ABERDEEN, UK -- Nexen Petroleum UK has installed the 6,500-metric ton (7,165-ton) deck and bridge structures for its new production sweetening platform at the Buzzard complex in the UK North Sea. The platform is 30 mi (48 km) northeast of the port of Peterhead in Scotland.
In March 2008, Heerema Hartlepool won the fabrication contract for the process deck and 550-metric ton bridge. The deck is 60 m (197 ft) long, 36 m (118 ft) wide, and 42 m (138 ft) tall, while the bridge is 80 m (262 ft) long.
At Buzzard, the deck was installed on the 3,500-mt (3,858-t) jacket fabricated by Heerema Fabrication Group’s yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands and delivered in August 2009.
Chris Reay, project manager of Heerema Hartlepool, said: "The pipework design of the deck is extremely complex and the construction program was very tight.”
Buzzard was discovered by previous operator EnCana in June 2001 and was developed by three bridge-linked platforms. Heerema Hartlepool supplied the 9,500-mt (10,472-t) utilities platform deck in April 2006.
