Don SW Phase II under way

Offshore staff

WOKING, UK -- The semisubmersible John Shaw has started drilling operations on Phase II of the Don Southwest development in the UK Northern North Sea.

This program is targeting reserves in the 'Horst' compartment in the north of the field between areas 5 and 6, discovered during last year’s drilling campaign. According to partner Valiant Petroleum, it contains some of the best reservoir quality encountered to date in the field.

A production well will be drilled first, followed by a water injection well to deliver pressure support into the compartment.

Work on the 'Horst' compartment should be completed this summer. Thereafter, the rig will drill an appraisal well into the field’s 'H' compartment, discovered earlier this year, and potentially a third production well on West Don, subject to partner agreement.

Production from Don Southwest and West Don has so far been in line with expectations following commissioning of the new pipeline export route to the Thistle platform, Valiant adds.
