GGS Atlantic commenced acquisition of the fourth phase of Spectrum's Big Wave Multi Client program in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Big Wave Phase 4 is a 12,000 km program which infills Phases 1 and 2 to generate a tighter grid for prospect level mapping. Big Wave Phase 4 will further expand Spectrum's seismic coverage in the eastern Gulf of Mexico to over 65,000 km of long offset, high quality 2D seismic data.
Spectrum is utilizing the GGS Atlantic to commence Big Wave Phase 4 until a contracted third party vessel arrives in the survey area in early May. Thereafter the GGS Atlantic will mobilize to Trinidad to commence a proprietary 3D programme. It is anticipated that the acquisition of Big Wave Phase 4 will be completed by the end of July 2010.
The data processing will be undertaken at Spectrum's computer center in Houston with a sequence to include both pre stack time and pre stack depth migration.
Big Wave Phase 4, has already attracted significant interest and secured pre-funding at satisfactory levels. The Big Wave program falls directly within the area of the eastern Gulf of Mexico that was announced on March 31 by the US Department of the Interior to be "strategically open for new oil and gas development and exploration.”
