SOCO International has been informed by the Hoan Vu Joint Operating Company, operator of Block 9-2 in the Cuu Long Basin offshore Vietnam, that the second phase of development has begun on the Ca Ngu Vang oil and gas field.

The jackup rig Offshore Resolute, owned by Scorpion Offshore, and contracted through PetroVietnam Drilling, has commenced the first well in the program. The CNV-6P-ST1 well is expected to take approximately 60 days to drill.

The Ca Ngu Vang oil and gas field was discovered in September 2002 by the CNV-1X well, which flowed oil at a rate of 3,6000 barrels a day and natural gas at 6.6 million cubic feet per day. The Ca Ngu Vang oil and natural gas field was deemed commercial in April 2006.
