Massey Energy Company (MEE) released the following statement regarding the recovery efforts at the Upper Big Branch Mine.

Efforts to recover 29 miners from the Upper Big Branch mine concluded early Tuesday morning.

"I want to thank the rescue teams from Massey Energy, teams from other coal companies and all others who worked tirelessly and selflessly for more than a week to recover the miners at the Upper Big Branch mine," said Chairman and CEO Don Blankenship. "Coal miners are an extended family, and the dedication of our miners and miners from competitor companies who put their own lives at risk in the search and recovery effort is commendable."

Massey continues to focus at this time on attending to the families to ensure they have the support they need.

Our focus will now turn to the investigation and we continue to work diligently with state and federal authorities to try to determine the cause of this tragic explosion as quickly as possible.

Massey Energy Company is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, with operations in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia.
