RWE npower renewables to receive $100M+ boiler for co-gen plant

3 February 2010 - RWE npower renewables submitted to Metso Corp. (MXCYY) an order to deliver a biomass boiler to for a co-generation plant to be located at Tullis Russell Papermakers at Markinch, Fife in the UK. Commercial operation is scheduled to begin in 2013. The value of the order is approximately $104M (EUR 75M).

Metso's delivery includes a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler with a capacity of 155 MW(th) and a flue gas treatment plant. The new power boiler will be part of a co-generation plant that will supply the paper mill of Tullis Russell with heat and electricity from biomass, mainly recycled wood. The plant will have an installed capacity of 50 MW and will replace the existing coal-fired power plant at Tullis Russell.

According to Stephan Lohr, RWE head of biomass, the project is slated to be RWE's largest investment to date in biomass based power generation.
