Pason Systems taps Mentor Engineering to increase safety

Mentor Engineering is pleased to announce their most recent technology implementation at Pason Systems Corp. Also based in Calgary, Alberta, Pason is a leading international provider of specialized rental oilfield instrumentation systems for use on land-based drilling and service rigs.

In order to respond to calls quickly and speed service to their customers, Pason looked to Mentor for a solution to help achieve their business goals and manage additional trouble areas. "We are looking for this solution to address our safety concerns and efficiency issues," explains James Parks, Manager of Integrated Support Services at Pason Systems Corp.

The system selected includes Mentor Ranger® mobile computers in the vehicles and Mentor Streets® Oil and Gas in the office which integrates with Pason's existing service application. Streets Oil and Gas provides Pason with Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL)/GPS, captures telematic data, and includes event management and reporting capabilities.

In conjunction with Mentor Streets Oil and Gas, Mentor Ranger mobile computers offer work order management to increase efficiency. If one of Pason's customers has problems with their equipment, Field Technicians can initiate service calls directly from Ranger, saving time. Previously, technicians would have had to enter call information at the end of the day, making the Field Technicians' days longer. As in the past, customers can contact the Pason Help Desk for service. The benefit to Pason of the Mentor solution is that the Help Desk Analysts can now enter the information and immediately forward it to the Field Technician eliminating the need to call the Technician while he is driving.

Mentor has also established an interface to a satellite modem, which guarantees that Ranger units are always in contact with the office, improving safety and connectivity. In addition to simplifying the handoff of service call information, the custom-built mobile application running on Ranger features private road routing, well site and Legal Subdivision (LSD) coordinate lookup capability. In the vehicle, Pason's Field Technicians simply enter the well site or LSD coordinates, and Ranger provides turn-by-turn directions to the location.

A combination of business acumen and robust technology led Pason to choose Mentor as their technology provider.

"Mentor made a genuine effort to understand our business. Compared to a lot of companies out there, Mentor understood that our business is not as straightforward as it may seem," says James. "This is the third attempt we've made with putting in an AVL system. The previous systems we tried just did not have enough in them to work for us. The features and functions of Ranger give us more confidence in the way our business operates."
With the Pilot successfully completed in December of 2009, Mentor will oversee the installation of the rest of the Ranger units in Canada and the United States in the coming months.
