Ithaca spuds Stella appraisal well in UK North Sea

Ithaca Energy reports that the Galaxy II jackup drilling rig is on location and has commenced drilling the Stella appraisal well. Stella is located in Block 30/6 in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Owned by Transocean, the Galaxy II jackup was contracted to drill an appraisal well on the Stella field. Additionally, ADTI was contracted to manage the appraisal drilling operations.

The appraisal well is being drilled to confirm Ithaca’s estimated in-place volume of 8.94 million barrels of oil equivalent, better understand the complexities of the hydrocarbon composition and to establish the distribution and quality of the reservoir.

Scheduled to take about 79 days to complete, the Stella appraisal well is being drilled to the Cretaceous chalk layers below the main Stella reservoir target.

Should Stella prove commercially viable, timely development of the field will allow joint development, tying back the nearby Harrier and Hurricane discovers to the Stella facilities.
