First smart meter installed in Norman by OG&E

OG&E welcomed its first customers to receive the first smart meter installed in the first Positive Energy Smart Grid community in Oklahoma.

Gary and Pam Clinton, long-time Norman residents, welcomed OG&E’s and contractor Corix’s installation crew to their home at 9 a.m. on Feb.15.

“We were excited to learn that Norman would be the first city to receive this new technology, and we’re honored to be OG&E’s first smart meter customer here,” said Gary Clinton.

Smart meters will be installed at businesses and residences across Norman through May.

Other smart grid equipment also is being installed on the OG&E electric system to increase power quality and reliability.

OG&E is recruiting 3,200 Norman customers for a study of new smart grid equipment in the home or business, as well as new pricing plans. The study will help determine if having individualized energy use and cost information and time of use rates helps these customers make choices to use less electricity during hot summer afternoons and evenings, when the cost of electricity is highest.
