Nordex wins Australia windfarm deal

German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex Group is to supply 22 tubines to a new windfarm in Australia.

The company will provide its AW125/3000 turbines for the first phase of the Mount Gellibrand windfarm, a 66 MW project located near Colac in Western Victoria state, around 100 kilometres southwest of Melbourne.

The customer is Spanish project developer Acciona Energia and the deal marks the first Australian project for Nordex since its acquisition of Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Acciona Windpower last April.

Nordex says Victoria is “one of the states with the greatest potential for wind power in Australia”.

It will instal the AW125/3000 turbines on 87.5 metre tubular steel towers, which will be built in Victoria.

The windfarm is scheduled to begin operations in 2018.
