Sino-Australian consortium acquires 61 per cent of National Grid

Macquarie has led a consortium, which includes China Investment Corporation (CIC) and Qatar Investment Authority to acquire 61 per cent of the UK National Grid’ gas distribution business.

Macquarie is also tipped to win the auction for the UK Green Investment Bank, which was set up by the UK government in 2012 to back eco-friendly projects.

National Grid has 82,000 miles (132,000km) of pipeline, which delivers gas to approximately 11m households and businesses. The gas arm employs nearly 5,700 staff.
