Enel opens Brazilian hydropower plant

Enel Green Power Brasil Participações (EGPB) has opened a hydroelectric power plant in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

The 102 W Apiacás hydroelectric power complex features three power plants that include 45 MW Salto Apiacás, 30 MW Cabeça de Boi and 27 MW Fazenda.

Enel invested about $287m in the construction of the complex, which powers over 200,000 homes in Brazil.

A power purchase agreement (PPA) for 30 years has been entered, under which the power generated from the plant will be sold to a group of energy distributing companies in the country. During the development of the project, EGPB installed a 1.2 MW solar PV facility, which supplied power during the construction period.
