ENTSOE elects GE’s Laurent Schmitt as secretary-general

ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, has selected Laurent Schmitt as its new secretary-general.

Schmitt will succeed to Konstantin Staschus, who is not seeking a third four-year mandate beyond his current one which ends early next year.

ENTSO-E represents 42 transmission system operators from 35 European countries.

Schmitt is Global SmartGrid Strategy Leader at Grid Solutions, a GE and Alstom joint venture, in GE’s Energy Connections business.

He joined GE’s Grid Solutions when it was formed in 2015 after 18 years of working for Alstom.
