GE wins $800m Asia-Pacific orders

GE Power has clinched more than $800m of new orders across the Asia-Pacific region.

Announced at Power-Gen Asia in Seoul today, the orders include the first heat recovery steam generator technology project following GE’s acquisition of Korea’s Doosan Engineering & Construction’s HRSG business in August.

GE said the orders would play a part in helping South Korea cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 37 per cent by 2030, a pledge it made at the COP21 climate conference in Paris last year. GE Power president Steve Bolze

The orders include the first total power island order in Asia for GE since its acquisition of Alstom Power in 2015.

The $140m order, from Korea Midland Power Company (KOMIPO) includes a new 250 MW combined cycle power facility on Jeju Island and will feature two of GE’s 6F.03 gas turbines. The contract also marks GE’s first use of HRSG technology following the Doosan deal.

The other orders are for a stator rewind project at a natural gas-fired cogeneration plant in Chonburi province in Thailand, and 17 emergency diesel generator packages plus five transportable switch rooms for Malaysia’s PETRONAS group.

At a media briefing this morning, GE Power president Steve Bolze said that “there has never been a more exciting time for the Asia-Pacific power market. Advances in power generation in Korea and the Asia-Pacific are emerging as showcases for the world”.

Asia Power Week, incorporating POWER-GEN Asia, Renewable Energy World Asia and the Asia Financial Forum, runs until Thursday (September 22).
