GE in digital deal for TEPCO thermal plants

GE Power is to introduce its latest digital solutions to the thermal power plants operated by Japan’s TEPCO Fuel & Power.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding this week which will see GE Power’s Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions utilized across TEPCO’s thermal fleet.

This will start with the installation of GE’s Asset Performance Management software in the 1520 MW LNG-fuelled Futtsu Power Station Unit 4, in Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo. The work is due to start next year. Futtsu Power Station Unit 4

“We look forward to developing a new business strategy with GE by harnessing IIoT technologies that will create new customer value at our domestic and overseas thermal power plants and deliver improved reliability for our customers through improved plant economics.”

GE Power president Steve Bolze said:“GE is honored to collaborate with Tepco to deploy our advanced digital solutions to increase the reliability and performance of its thermal power plants and enhance Japan’s energy supply."

“The Futtsu station installation is our first advanced digital power plant project in Japan and demonstrates the numerous operational benefits that utilities can achieve by investing in the industry’s latest software solutions.”
