Chinese firm breached contract says Ecuador

China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) has been singled out for breach of contract by the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (Celec).

Late last year, state-owned Celec submitted its first request to the Public Procurement Service (Sercop) to include the Chinese company in the register for faults in a contract for construction, installation and commissioning of the 50 MW Quijos hydroelectric project.

According to the official schedule, the Chinese firm was to begin generating power next March, but at the end of last year alone it recorded an increase of 46.4 per cent.
