Doosan Skoda Power hails India steam turbine milestone

Czech Republic-based turbine manufacturer Doosan Škoda Power has successfully commissioned a 171 MW single-body steam turbine at a coal plant in India.

The company said that completion of the project at the Gummidipoondi plant near Chennai puts Doosan Škoda Power “among just a handful of manufacturers worldwide to successfully operate this turbine concept”. Doosan Skoda Power Gummidipoondi steam turbine project

Doosan Škoda Power chief executive Jiří Šmondrk said: “Gummidipoondi provides an important reference project for us, allowing us to demonstrate the extent of our turbine design and manufacturing expertise.

“Successful completion of this major project further builds on the strong reputation enjoyed by Škoda steam turbines in the Indian power generation market.”

The Gummidipoondi contract was awarded earlier this year by plant owner and operator OPG Power Generation. The turbine was supplied as part of a complete machine hall package, including assembly.
