Uruguay cancels 50 MW wind deal

Uruguay's state-run utility UTE has rejected a request from Alubar Energia to postpone a power purchase agreement for a 50 MW wind farm in the Maldonado region, according to El Pais newspaper.

The Brazilian firm was to complete installation of the wind farm by June 2015 and sell the output to the national grid for a 20-year period.

Last year, the company asked UTE to postpone the plant's commissioning until June 2016 due to a delay.

Although the request was initially accepted subject to compensation, the utility has changed its decision following a recommendation from the National Energy Directorate.
