Alstom to supply four substations in Chile

Alstom is to supply four turnkey substations for Chile’s first interconnection system, the Mejillones-Cardones Transmission line, the company said in a statement.

The firm was selected by Transmisión Eléctrica del Norte, a subsidiary of E-CL, an electric company based in Chile and part of the Engie Group.

The contract is worth approximately $278m and includes the installation of three new 500 kV substations, as well as the expansion of the Nueva Cardones substation.

The project is due to be completed in 2017 and is set to create a country-wide 580 km "electric superhighway" interconnection system.
