Vestas unveils new wind turbine power mode

Vestas has unveiled a new power mode which is set to lower the cost of wind energy and may debut in a collaborative project with Statkraft in Norway.

The Danish wind turbine manufacturing leader has also secured a 149 MW order for a wind power project in Mexico.

Based on site-specific conditions, the 3.45 MW power mode will increase annual energy production and contribute to lowering the cost of energy.

The shared nacelle technology and design allows Vestas to offer the 3.45 MW power mode across its entire 3 MW platform.

In January 2015, Statkraft and Vestas signed a letter of intent to supply wind turbines for the Fosen wind power projects in Norway, which have a potential of up to 1,000MW.  If the projects should result in firm and unconditional orders, Statkraft as the operator of the projects expects to utilise the new power mode on the V117 turbine.

Meanwhile Vestas announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide wind turbines for the Tres Mesas wind energy projects in the northeast of Mexico.

There the company will provide 45 V117-3.3 MW turbines, amounting to 148.5 MW, to the Eólica Tres Mesas and Eólica Tres Mesas 2 projects, set to be developed in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
