Spanish consortium to build gas-fired power plant in Mexico

Spain's OHL Industrial and the SENER engineering group are spearheading a consortium contracted to construct CFE a combined cycle power plant to serve northern Mexico.

The Mexican Federal Electricity Commission, or CFE, awarded the $477m contract for the gas-fired power project to be sited in the city of Empalme.

It is expected to go online in 2017 and OHL Industrial and SENER will do the engineering work and provide equipment and materials, spare parts and special tools for the project.

An estimated 1,500 jobs will be created during the construction phase, the consortium said.
