Guatemala awards power plant contracts to nine firms

Through its Energuate distribution company, Guatemala's National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE) has awarded contracts to build power plants that will total 18 MW.

Despite the auction including 120 MW and 18 companies taking part, only nine of them were awarded contracts, according to a report by the Prensa Libre newspaper.

All projects must begin operation between 1 May 2015 and 31 December 2016.

The prices offered in the bid ranged between $134.96 and $178.49 per MWh. Among the projects to be constructed are power plants at Buena Vista and Piedras Blancas.
