Egypt picks 109 renewable projects for FiT scheme

A total of 94 companies have prequalified for Egypt’s feed-in tariff renewable energy scheme.

Between them, the companies have submitted 109 proposals for renewable projects, comprising 68 for solar photovoltaic schemes between 20-50 MW, 12 for solar PV projects between 500kW and 20 MW and 28 for wind farms between 20-50 MW.

The companies include France’s GDF Suez and EDF, Marubeni from Japan, Spain’s Abengoa, Italian firm Enel, Tata from India and ACWA from Saudi Arabia.

Egypt’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Ministry unveiled the FiT scheme last September and plans to award the projects by the end of 2016.
