Siemens installs offshore turbine on land in Germany

Siemens has installed its first 6 MW wind turbine on land in Germany. Siemens 6MW turbine

The turbines which are mainly designed for offshore use have been erected in a village near Wilhelmshaven in the north west of the country.

Siemens says the wind conditions on the onshore site are comparable to those offshore and the turbines will supply electricity to 14,000 homes.

The turbines are equipped with direct-drive generators and their rotors have a diameter of 154 meters and cover an area of 18,600 square meters – more than three football fields.
