Alstom in $49m substation upgrade on Borneo

Alstom has clinched a €40m ($49m) contract to upgrade a 275 kV substation in the Malaysian state of Saraw Alstom substation ak in Borneo.

The deal has been won from state-owned utility Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the project, is due to be completed in phases over 41 months.

Alstom will supply the civil works as well as products and commissioning for the upgrade, including a new 275 kV switchyard and two new 240 MVA auto transformers. Alstom will also relocate existing systems and auxiliaries from present site to the new substation.

The deal marks the second contract Alstom has won from SEB and is its fourth substation project in Sarawak.
